Entering the rest of God
Therefore, since the promise of entering His rest remains, let us fear lest any of you should seem to come short of it. For the gospel was preached to us as well as to them. But the word preached did not benefit them, because it was not mixed with faith in those who heard it. Hebrews 4:1-2
Today I want to discuss the topic of entering into God’s rest. It appears to me there are many who could benefit from this article. We all can agree that we are living in trouble times filled with strife, division, and unrest. It has more difficult to maintain a sense of peace in this chaotic environment, but it is possible. This is especially true for the believer. Jesus promised us that we would be kept safe from the evil one. (John 17:15)
The Scripture also tells us that we will find perfect if our minds our focus on God. (Isaiah 26:3) If we chose to focus on the Word of God instead of our situation/circumstances then God will provide us with His peace. Faith is required for this to be accomplished. For without faith it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6)
WHAT IS THE REST OF GOD?
Does entering the rest of God mean that we will not experience challenges, trails, or tribulations? As long as we live in this fallen world we will face obstacles and challenges. The rest comes from knowing in spite of the circumstances it will not overcome comes us for greater is He that lives in us than he who is in this world. (1John 4:4)
This knowing can only come by taking on the yoke of Jesus, which means having the same mindset of paradigm He had. Jesus thought differently than those around Him. His focus was doing the will of his Father. He didn’t bother himself with the religious teaching of the Pharisee or the philosophy of the day. His focus was on the Word. (John 5:19,30)
Jesus made a promise that if we would take his yoke upon we would find peace and the burden would not be heavy but light. This will require trust and faith on our part. Are you willing to let go of that heavy burden around your neck, and take the yoke of Jesus in exchange. Are you willing to humble yourself and admit you can’t figure this out on your own? Are you will stop putting your trust in the arm of man, rather than God?
