AUTHORITY AND FAITH

May 17, 2016

But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. I know this because I am under authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say ‘Go, or come’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this, ’they do it.” Matthew 8:8-9

The above scripture was part of a conversation that Jesus had with a Roman centurion. The officer had requested that Jesus heal his servant, who was an Israelite. Jesus offer to come to the Centurion’s home but the officer said that was not necessary. He told Jesus just speak the word, to his servant, and he would be healed. Jesus marveled over this man’s faith, and said “He had not seen such faith in all of Israel!”

What a statement to say about someone who was a gentile! Why would someone who lived outside of the covenant have such great a faith? The answer is contained in the above scripture. If we can grasp this truth then we too can have this kind of faith. I never put authority and faith together until recently. I either used the combination of faith and patience or faith and hearing the Word of God. But having an understanding of authority will increase our capacity to receive more from God.

In a previous lesson we learned the Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. (John 1:14) This means that the Word of God and Jesus are one in the same. With this revelation we can look at the promises of God differently. They become more than just words on paper, but they become live and active. (Hebrews 4:12) It is like Jesus is speaking directly to us.

We can be assured that whatever promise we find, we can be totally confident that it will come to pass because it is impossible for God to lie. (Hebrews 6:18) We know that God’s word will never return to Him void, but shall accomplish what it was sent to do. (Isaiah 55:11) With the assurance of the aforementioned we can be as bold as the centurion was and know that all we have to do is speak the promise of God, found in His Word it will come to pass.

This is the mountain moving faith that Jesus spoke of in Mark 11:22-24. We can have that God kind of faith because we realize the power and authority behind it: for it is the Word of His power that maintains the cosmos, and guarantees every aspect of our salvation. (Hebrews 1:3) I believe this is one of the major keys to walking in the supernatural; learning to walk under the authority of the Word of God, and speaking in the authority of the Word of God.
